My name is Nadine Pia Maria, I am an architectural designer with a great interest in nature, urban design, philosophy, psychology, and storytelling. I am a generalist who likes to focus on one thing at a time to gain a deeper understanding of a specific area while cross-connecting multiple disciplines with one another. I believe it is as important as ever to have generalists who look at the world and its challenges holistically. I want to grow into an interdisciplinary creative who can mediate between poles and find (design) solutions to political, environmental, and social problems at all scales.

What I do,
Why I do it

  • Photography helps me to understand the not so obvious, to uncover the hidden and to draw parallels. It’s not about pressing a button but about making the fleeting and the seemingly invisible, visible. It’s about capturing and transmitting a specific moment or feeling in order to gain understanding for someone or something one couldn’t grasp, see or understand before.

I focus on outdoor, architecture and event photography and tend to capture people, places and moments in a documentary style. Get a glimpse of my photography work here.

I am open to realise projects together and would love to photograph your next happening, adventure or building. Feel free to get in touch with me about your idea and to get access to my full portfolio.

  • I studied architecture at ETH Zurich and EPF Lausanne and am currently working at the Institute for Cities and Landscapes at ETHZ where I am involved in the Urban Transformation Project Sarajevo (BiH).

My areas of interest in the built environment are:
urban studies, urbanism, placemaking, sociology, psychology of the city, ecology, structural design, refurbishment, sustainability

  • I love to observe. I love words.

Mostly I write philosophical essays on societal topics that I perceive as essential and sometimes too evident.
